The Art Gallery at the Royal Norfolk Show

Join Darcey as she explores the RNAA art marquee.

At The Royal Norfolk Show, this year you can find a selection of pieces of art varying from multiple different artists and techniques, such as Acrylics, Oil, Pastel, Pencil and Sculptures.

They were showcasing the Young Artist of The Year winning piece, which was made by Mia Croft. Mias winning piece used a reference photograph of a friend looking out of a window at Oxburgh Hall. She used acrylic paints in a colourful composition to show the realism of the reflection on the subject’s face.

You can also see the runner ups on display which were made by Keith Ng, Charlie Drayton and Sommer-Rose Day. Keith Ng created a pencil drawing of a close-up image of an eye. They were able to capture all the tones and details of the eye. Charlie Drayton created a screen print of grass which brought together a composition that works well. Sommer-Rose Day created an acrylic piece that has a representation of multiple layers of meaning and different perspectives of one story.

Whilst I was there, I was able to speak to artist, John Patchett. Who is known for creating bright and vibrant pastel paintings, he mainly focuses on his surroundings especially when the sun comes out. John told me how his inspiration comes from the sun as “The most fascinating thing I find is light… as soon as the sun comes our grass turns into a bright haze”. John is based in Norwich and makes his local streets look full of life through his artwork.
