Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association
The RNAA is a registered charity, which historically began in 1847. The objectives of the Association are to promote through the Royal Norfolk Show and other events, the image, understanding and prosperity of agriculture and the countryside.
Norfolk is one of the oldest County Associations, being founded in 1847 by the amalgamation of the East Norfolk and West Norfolk Associations. For the first fifteen years under the newly formed Association, Shows alternated between Norwich and Swaffham. From 1862 until 1953 Shows were held throughout the county with the co - operation and support of landowners with parkland sites.
In 1908 the Association was granted the great privilege of the Royal prefix by King Edward VII. The Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association made its initial purchase of land at Costessey for its permanent showground in 1952 and the first Show was staged on the site in 1954. Since which time a great deal of time and money has been devoted in creating and improving a permenent showground.
